Language Register Analysis

I have decided that I am going to write my article in Standard English as I think that it will be clearer and easier for the readers to read. I think that this needs to be the case as the genre of music doesn't have a specific class of people who they are aiming at (such as rap) and so it would be for the best to do it in Standard English.

Font Research / Analysis

I will be using a variety of different fonts throughout my magaizne and I need to do research to find out which fonts will look the best, which link to my genre the best and which I am actually going to use. If I don't find a font that I am definitely going to use, I will know the styles that like which will make it a lot easier to find one that I actually like as I will know what I'm looking for.

Font 1

I like this font because it looks quite old yet cool however I don't think that this is the best for my magazine name on the cover because I dont think that it is interesting enough to grab attention of the target audience in shops which is something that needs to happen in order for the target readers to see and buy and read my magazine. I don't think this font will be used on or in my magazine as it would look weird on the cover and there are better, more suitable fonts to be used inside the magazine on wither the contents page or the double page spread.

Font 2

I like this font because it links to my vintage style really well. It looks really vintage yet still looks quite cool and would be attractive to my target audience. However, I think that this font would be more appealing to females rather than males which would illiminate this gender from buying my magazine. Also, I don't think that this font would catch my readers attention in a shop which is vital for getting people to look at and buy the magazine. I think that this font would look good on either the contents page or on my double page spread because it would be odd to not use this font as it links so well with my genre and theme.

Font 3 

This font links in with the style and the genre of my magazine really well and I think (if done in the right colour) would appeal to both genders rather than just one. This means the target audience is still quite broad. I don't think that this would be very eye catching on the front cover however on the inside of the magazine (either on the contents page or the double page spread) it would work really well. This font does look very old fashioned and vintage and therefore links really well to my style, theme and genre

Font 4

This font is very bold and would be eye catching on the shop shelves to my target audience. The bold lettering would be good for my magazine name on the front cover, however I don't like the style of the font. This font looks very retro and, although my styling for the magazine should look retro, this isn't a cool enough vintage style. It needs to look more vintagey (like fonts 2 and 3) in order to link to the styling and the genre of my magazine more clearly. Also, this font isn't very unisex and is very much aimed at females which isn't something which I want.

Font 5

I like this font because it is very unique which links to my magazine genre. Although the font does not look as vintage and stylish as I originally wanted to, I think the quirkiness of this font would look really good in my magazine. I don't think that it is eye catching enough to be on the cover as the masthead as it would need to be bolder in order to gain more attention, however it would look cool as a feature font or to be used on the contents page.

Font 6

I think that this font would be suitable for both genders which is good as my magazine will need to appeal to both genders so that the target audience is wide and many people will be attracted to the magazine. I like the boldness of the font as it will make the magazine title look eye catching when on the shelves of a shop amoungst other magazines. I think that the font could look more vintage in order to match the style and genre of my magazine a bit more, however there is a classic look to the font so I don't see this as a massive issue.

Font 7

This style is vintage but not in the style of it that I would like. This looks like the type oif font used on really old posters whereas I want my magazine and font to look cool and modern with a vintage twist. However, the font is bold and I like that as it means it will be eye catching and will draw someoines eye to the magazine in a shop which would hopefully result in them buying it if they like the genre of music. I think this font would be appealing to males and females meaning that my target audience would still be quite broad which is what I want as the genre appeals to both genders so my magazine should too.

Font 8

This font is really edgy as well as having a clear link to the vintage style that I want my magazine to have. I think that this font would look good on either my cover, contents page or double page spread because it looks good. If it was in bold then I think this font would look good as the masthead on the cover as it has a clear link to my theme, style and genre and would be eyecatching to the target audience. My only concern for this font is that I don't know if it would be attractive or appealing to males as the font (if done in the woring colour) has the potential to look quite girly because of the curves and swirls.

Font 9

Although this font isn't the style of vintage that I would like (would be suitable to retro disco more than classic vintage) I think that this would be a good font for the cover as it is bold and would be eye catching and would make the magaizine stand out. I like the way the lower case 'i' looks in this style and I think this would appeal to people who are interested in indie music however it doesn't really match my vintage style or theme which could be a problem. I think this would be an appealing font to both genders which is good as the target market is then still quite broad.

Font 10

This font style matches the theme, genre and style of my magazine and I think that this would look good on the cover, contents or double page spread. I think that if done in the right colours, the font would make the magazine appeal to both genders keeping the target audience fairly broad which is something I want to do as it means a large amount of people would want to buy and read the magazine meaning it would be a more comerically viable magazine. I think that this font looks goo as it is, however if done in bold then it would be ideal to use as the masthead on the cover whoch would be eye catching and would also be appealing to both genders.

Doing this research has made me realise that a lot of the vintage style fonts which I like wouldn't be suitable or appealing to both males and females. As my target audience is both as I want to have a broad target audience, I need to find a font that has a vintage look which will appeal to both genders in order to make sure that boys and girls will be attracted to my magazine and will buy my magazine.

Institution Research

A large amount of magazine publishers are in existance. I need to research these publishers to make sure I know the type ofinstitutions which will be interested in publishing a magazine of this genre.

I believe that ICP Media would be the perfect company to publish my magazine because they have a lot of experience with publishing music magazines and have a good relationship with a large popuation. Reaching out and communicationg with over 26 million adults in the UK will be a good start for my magazine as the brand reputation would be brilliant and would make it more of a success.

Audience Research

The target audience for my music magazine will be people who are interested in upcomming indie and folk mausic. I have realised that these people tend to be teenagers or young adults (normally aged from 16 up until their late twenties) meaning that my photos, styling, features and articles will have to relate to and appeal to this age range.

This age range will be interested in music which is why I am creating a music magazine, however they will also be interested in other things such as films, cuture and fashion meaning that my magazine should also include these kinds of features which means that it will bulk out my magazine and will be more of an attraction to this target audience.

The kind of music magazine that would appeal to my target audience would be 'The Fly'. This is because they feature similar types of music that I will use in my magazine. The traget audience for 'The Fly' would be young adults because of the genre and also teenagers because it is free. The price is something which I need to consider because the amount of money it costs will play a huge part in the type of people who will buy the magazine, For example, aiming it at teenagers is good because the genre will appeal to them however they might not have enough money to buy the magazine and so it would be pointless aiming it at them if they dont buy it.
