This double page spread from indie rock music magazine 'The Fly' uses three colours; blue, white and black. This is effective because the whole page fits together perfectly and nothing stands out on the page for looking wrong. The image that has been used on the left page (first page) is of the featuring artist and it has been edited to make the colour link into the colour of the page heading. This makes the two most important features of the page (to look at) on the page the same the same colour which draws the readers attention straight to them. The text of the article is in small black font which makes it easy to read on the white background. The main article text in shown in two fairly wide columns which could look quite boring, however the bright blue sections of the double page spread keeps the eye interested in the rest of the page meaning that the page isn't boring. The font of the page heading is cool and original which reflects the music by the artist and the and the type of music featured in 'The Fly' magazine. The heading has been presented to look quite boxy which is a unique way to present something and, when looked at, has the effect of looking quite creative. Underneath the page heading is a summary of what the page is about and gives a small amount of information (sometimes a quote) about the artist which is used to draw the reader in to read the article. In this double page spread, this section of information has been shown in a larger font than the rest of the article, but a smaller font than the heading showing that it is important yet letting the reader know it is only a small amount of information and that there is more to find out/read about in the article. This will make the audience want to carry on and read the article. At the bottom of the page in the corner shows the name of 'The Fly' magazine to give brand recognition as well as the page numberr which happens in most magazines which means that I need to do this when making my music magazine.
This double page spread from music magazine 'NME' featuring Florence and the Machine. The article is about Florence taking over the USA and so the page title 'USA' is the biggest piece of text on the page. This draws the readers attention to the text and gives them an idea of what the article will be about and will make them want to read it. The image of the artist herself includes an American flag which links directly to her (as she is the one who is taking the USA by storm) as well as the article as it is about her in the USA. The colours used on the double page spread are blach, grey and red. The red is only used in the image from the flag and her hair. Making these parts of the page the only bits in proper colour are effective as it stands out to the reader and makes the oage look cool and interesting. The text 'GOT THE LOVE' has been done in swirly artistic wringing and is places over the word 'USA' in a darker colour which makes it stand out against the lighter background and text which makes it look more creative. 'GOT THE LOVE' is one of the songs by the artist so the article already has a direct link to her. the main article text has been presented in a fairly simple black text in three columns which makes it clear and easy for the reader to read. The image is really big which stands out and dominates the page showing its importance as it will make the audience want to read the article. The outfit that she is wearing is black and matches the colour scheme of the double page spread. The image makes it easy to recognise the artist because of the hair and outfit she has been styled in. She is posing yet looks comfortable, confident and relaxed making the reader believe that she is comfortable. The pictures used in my magazine need to show the artist looking comfortable otherwise people readeing/looking at it will feel awkward and uncomfortable. The image and the double page spread will appeal to readers of 'NME' as they are interested in current and upcomming music and this featuring artist is very current.
